This free acreage calculator measures a rectangular plot from width and length, then converts that area among acres, hectares, square meters, square feet, and square miles. Use it when you need land area in imperial or metric units, or when a price per acre (or per hectare) should become a total cost.

Type the two sides, pick their length units, and choose the area unit for the result. Switching acres to square meters or hectares to acres uses the international acre (4046.8564224 m²) and the hectare (10,000 m²). The same form also covers acres to square miles.

Acreage calculator — how it works

Both sides are converted to meters, multiplied to square meters, then divided by the size of the area unit you selected. Mixed units are allowed (for example length in feet and width in meters). If you enter a price per area unit, the total is area times that price.

Hectares to acres

One hectare equals 10,000 square meters, which is about 2.471054 acres (10,000 ÷ 4046.8564224). To convert hectares to acres, multiply hectares by 2.471054. The reverse—acres to hectares—divides by the same factor, or multiplies by 0.404686. Set the area unit dropdown to hectares or acres after you have an area.

Acres to square meters

One international acre is 4046.8564224 square meters. Multiply acres by that constant for acres to square meters; divide square meters by it to go the other way. The calculator does this when you choose square meters as the area unit.

Acres to square miles and square feet

One square mile contains 640 acres, so acres to square miles is acres ÷ 640 (equivalently 1 acre = 0.0015625 mi²). One acre is also 43,560 square feet. Choose square miles or square feet in the area unit list to apply those factors.

Worked example

A rectangle 100 m by 50 m has area 5,000 m². In acres that is 5000 / 4046.8564224 ≈ 1.2355 acres. Twenty hectares is 20 × 2.471054 ≈ 49.42 acres.
